Position Details: Process Engineer

Description:

Summary of Position

Responsible for technical assistance at the ST Tissue facility.  Duties include working all levels in the location to troubleshoot current operation and train employees.  Ensures excellence in areas of safety, quality, cost, production, and environmental compliance. 

 

Duties & Responsibilities

  • Observes and follows all the safety regulations and plant procedures including use of personal protective equipment (PPE) such as respirators, fall protection harness, chemical suits, hard hats, safety glasses, face shields, gloves, and other equipment as required to perform job duties safely
  • Carries out management goals and directives
  • Reviews designs, P&ID and other documents to ensure proper equipment usage and to maintain current documentation
  • Works with operation groups to solve production issues such as bottlenecks, continuing equipment malfunctions, and product quality
  • Assists with the design, trial, and analysis of equipment and chemical trials
  • Assumes an active role in developing and encouraging the use of lean manufacturing tools such as centerline sheets, JSA, and root cause analysis
  • Reviews process changes with environmental and safety personnel to ensure they meet required mandates
  • Utilizes troubleshooting skills for the fiber recycling process, including problem solving for recycled pulp use on the tissue machines
  • Provides customer support, if needed, for wet lap sales  
  • May be assigned to special projects as needed
  • Practices ST Tissue Guiding Principles

 

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Pulp and Paper Science, Chemical Engineering, or a related field or extensive experience working in a production facility
  • Ability to work in a collaborative team environment
  • Two years experience in Paper/Fiber Recycling preferred
  • Computer literate, functional on word processing software, Microsoft Excel, and Microsoft Outlook
  • Ability to communicate effectively with all levels of employees, vendors, and customers
  • Ability to read, analyze, and interpret common technical journals, financial reports, and legal documents
  • Ability to write articles for distribution to the organization or outside groups
  • Experience leading teams

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is required to:

  • Frequently: Stand, lift up to 10 pounds, walk, ascend and descend stairs/ladders, and use keyboard and calculator
  • Occasionally: Lift up to 20 pounds, sit, bend at the waist, crouch (bend from the knees), reach above and below the shoulders, use foot controls
  • Specific vision abilities required by the job include close vision, distance vision peripheral vision, depth perception and the ability to adjust focus
