Job Title: Process Engineer
Reports to: Mill Manager
FLSA Status: Exempt
Position Summary
The Process Engineer provides technical expertise and support to optimize operations within the Barnwell Tissue Solutions facility. This role works collaboratively across departments to improve process efficiency, troubleshoot production issues, implement best practices, and ensure compliance with safety, quality, environmental, and cost objectives. A successful candidate will bring a hands-on approach to problem-solving and continuous improvement in a manufacturing setting.
Key Responsibilities
- Promote and adhere to all plant safety policies and procedures, including the proper use of PPE (e.g., respirators, fall protection, chemical suits, hard hats, safety glasses, gloves, etc.).
- Support plant goals by implementing management directives related to safety, quality, productivity, and cost.
- Review engineering documents (e.g., P&IDs, system designs) to ensure accurate documentation and appropriate equipment use.
- Troubleshoot and resolve production issues, including process bottlenecks, equipment malfunctions, and quality variances.
- Assist in the design, execution, and analysis of equipment and chemical trials to enhance production performance.
- Lead and support continuous improvement initiatives using Lean Manufacturing tools (e.g., Centerlines, JSAs, Root Cause Analysis).
- Coordinate process changes with Environmental Health & Safety (EHS) personnel to ensure regulatory compliance.
- Apply troubleshooting skills and process knowledge in the fiber recycling and tissue manufacturing processes.
- Provide technical support for wet lap sales and customer inquiries, as needed.
- Participate in or lead special projects and cross-functional initiatives as assigned.

Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in chemical engineering, Pulp and Paper Science, or a related technical field; equivalent experience in a manufacturing or process engineering environment will be considered.
- Minimum of 2 years of experience in paper manufacturing, fiber recycling, or a related process industry preferred.
- Strong communication skills, with the ability to work effectively across all organizational levels.
- Proficient in Microsoft Office (Excel, Word, Outlook); experience with DCS systems or manufacturing software a plus.
- Ability to analyze technical information, interpret data, and make sound recommendations.
- Demonstrated leadership experience in process improvement or team-based problem-solving environments.
- Comfortable writing technical reports, internal process documentation, and presenting findings or recommendations.

- Indoor and occasional outdoor work environments with hot, humid, or cold conditions
Physical Requirements:
- Frequently: Stand, walk, climb stairs/ladders, lift to 10 lbs., use a keyboard/calculator
- Occasionally: Sit, lift to 20 lbs., bend at the waist, crouch, reach overhead or below waist level, operate foot controls
- Vision requirements include close, distance, peripheral vision, depth perception, and focus adjustment
